457 Wheelock Pkwy W, St. Paul MN 55117 Every Other Breath is a tribute to the Humpback whale families of the planet. Whales/Cetaceans positively impact our planet like no other being. They contribute to 50% of Earth's oxygen and capture an estimated 37 billion tons (40%) of all CO2 produced, the International Monetary Fund reckoned it would take four Amazon Rain Forests' to capture the same amount annually. Every other breath of every being on the planet, is directly connected to the life of a whale. Embedded in the whale's natural way of life lies great hope for our own. Protecting and prioritizing whale lives by creating marine reserves, consuming less plastic, finding better ways to fish, and making it safer for whales to migrate through shipping lanes only contributes to public good.

Inspired by the collaborative community design process led by Udvig & Julio Zelaya, Plaza de St. James is a public art and green space created to conect business districts separated by train traks and support community: gathering, performance, play, and reflection. From a mile high, the Plaza is a true compass for navigators. Conceptually the Plaza is a metaphorical community compass meant to drive continued energy towards cross-cultural connection an equitable experience for all in Saint James. On the ground a path of bronze foot prints, each one unique, begin in the South and travel North, along the route joined by those coming from West and East. St. James community members’ footprints were captured throughout 2016 engagement and collaborative design. NE/NW/SE/SW points act as performance stages (2 raised, 2 flush) NSEW gabion benches built with community collected, aSJ farmer field stones. Integral Supporting Artist and NSEW Gabion Bench fabricator: Arnold Carlson Key Contractors: Casting Creations Foundry, Countryside Concrete Key Community Collaborators: Julio Zelaya, Brenda Byron, Karla Beck, Julieta Ochoa, Ever Vargas, Linda Buller, Jaime Scheffer

West 29th Street Minneapolis 55408, between Aldrich and Bryant. Designed to slow traffic and encourage a break from routine, Rules of Play reclaims the pavement space for public use in a nontraditional manner. From above, Rules of Play appears like a medicine wheel or target, on the ground- community members are challenged to invent and conquer the game. Numbers and contemporary media symbols, that have become common language no-matter age or country of origin, suggest game action but ultimately players are offered an experience akin to that of any given day... they must make it up as they go along. Web and media presence is an intentional and uncontrollable aspect of the work. Players are encouraged to engage using a hash-tag to share their #rulesofplaympls online.
