Plaza de Saint James, 2017 -19
304 Armstrong Blvd N, St. James, MN USA

Inspired by the collaborative community design process, the Plaza is a public art and green space created to support community gathering, performance, play, and reflection. From a mile high, the Plaza can be likened to a large navigational star that depicts actual NSEW direction. Conceptually the Plaza is a metaphorical community compass meant to drive continued energy towards cross-cultural connection among neighbors and a better, more equitable experience for all in Saint James.

On the ground a path of bronze foot prints, each one unique, begin in the South and travel North, along the route they are joined by those coming from West and East. St. James community members’ footprints were captured throughout 2016 engagement and collaborative design.  NE/NW/SE/SW points act as performance stages (2 raised, 2 flush/ADA compliant)
COMING SPRING 2019: trees/turf/gardens & gabion benches built with area farmer field stones.

Integral Supporting Artist and NSEW Gabion Bench fabricator: Arnold Carlson
Key Contractors: Casting Creations Foundry, Countryside Concrete
Key Community Collaborators: Julio Zelaya, Brenda Byron, Karla Beck, Julieta Ochoa, Ever Vargas, Linda Buller
